History
In June of 1992, voters of McKenzie County decided to merge the Arne “Bob” Sanford Library with the McKenzie County Rural Library. This merger created the McKenzie County Public Library. Construction on the Veteran’s Memorial Building and the Library was completed in 1997, with a grand opening held in February of that same year. The McKenzie County Public Library’s Sanford Room still hosts a photo in memory of Mr. & Mrs. Sanford. The McKenzie County Public Library is dedicated to providing services to all individuals residing in McKenzie County whether that is at our main location in Watford City or through our outreach services, such as the Bookmobile. The Library strives to be the community’s connection to information, entertainment, and inspiration.
Donations
The McKenzie County Public Library welcomes donations of books and other materials, provided they meet specific standards. Accepted items must be in brand new, like-new, or gently used condition, free from damage, heavy odors, or broken bindings. Nonfiction and informational books should be no more than three years old to ensure accurate and up-to-date information for patrons. Outdated formats, such as record albums, VHS tapes, and any pornographic materials, will not be accepted.
Materials meeting these criteria may be added to the Library's collection or made available to patrons. Items that do not meet the standards may be donated elsewhere or disposed of according to Library procedures. Donors are encouraged to call the Library before bringing in items. All donated materials become the exclusive property of the McKenzie County Public Library.
