Powers and Duties
The Public Works Subcommittee was formed to enhance the efficiency and oversight of public works-related functions within McKenzie County. It acts as a liaison between the Road & Bridge Department, the Landfill and the Board of County Commissioners, fostering better communication and providing structured guidance. The subcommittee meets on the second Monday of the month at the Public Works Building.
The subcommittee's primary powers and duties include:
- Facilitate Communication: Act as an intermediary between public works departments (Road and Bridge and Landfill) and the Board of County Commissioners to ensure clear and consistent communication.
- Review Agenda Items: Evaluate and discuss agenda items submitted by staff, providing preliminary feedback and recommendations for the Board of County Commissioners.
- Provide Recommendations: Offer informed guidance and recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners on public works matters, including policies, plans and proposed actions.
- Coordinate with Staff: Collaborate with public works staff to address operational challenges and explore solutions to enhance service delivery.
- Hold Public Meetings: Conduct monthly public meetings to maintain transparency, ensure public engagement and foster accountability in county operations.
- Submit Reports: Present meeting minutes and summaries to the Board of County Commissioners during regular commission meetings.
