The County Superintendent of Schools is responsible for assisting rural school boards and teachers. The Superintendent of Schools (SOS) serves as the superintendent in schools that do not employ their own superintendent. The SOS conducts teacher evaluations in said schools and assists rural schools with DPI requirements. The SOS organizes the County MathCounts and Spelling Bee and assists with state competitions. The Superintendent of Schools is the administrator of McKenzie County Imagination Library and finds funding to support the program. The SOS is to gather, review and analyze student data for oil & gas student/school district data. The SOS can assist rural schools with budgeting needs and provide and document affidavits for age verification using school records and census information. The Superintendent of Schools serves as Secretary for School Annexation and Reorganization Board, is to gather and compile information for the required hearings of the board. The SOS can assist homeschool parents with questions. Plan and put on the Annual Bus Driver workshop for all drivers in the county. The Superintendent of Schools also oversees the Coordinator of the Systems of Support Pilot program to help provide support and resources for daycares, preschools and afterschool programs in McKenzie County.
