In compliance with North Dakota law, McKenzie County Weed Control is committed to controlling noxious species across all land in McKenzie County. The office has developed a plan of action specifically for large properties and areas, designed to manage and eradicate noxious weeds.

Goals of McKenzie County Weed Control

  1. Manage the spread of noxious weeds: Develop a long-term integrated weed management plan that includes chemical, cultural, biological and mechanical control methods.
  2. Increase awareness: Educate McKenzie County citizens about the impact of noxious weeds, North Dakota Noxious Weed Law and proper weed control techniques.
  3. Foster cooperative efforts: Build and implement programs that promote collaboration between groups, agencies and individuals on noxious weed control.

Methods of Noxious Weed Control

  • Detection and Eradication: Identify and eradicate infestations of noxious weeds wherever possible within McKenzie County.
  • Management on County-Controlled Lands: Oversee weed control efforts on lands owned or controlled by the county, municipalities and along rights-of-way.
  • Biological Control Agents: Release and redistribute approved biological control agents to help manage infestations.
  • Chemical, Mechanical, and Cultural Control: Promote the proper use of chemical, mechanical and cultural methods to control weeds.
  • Education and Programs: Provide educational resources and presentations to inform residents and offer support programs to assist in managing noxious weeds.
