The City of Watford City, Community Development Department has released the final results of a community survey and downtown redevelopment plan of three under-utilized development areas within Watford City.

In March, 2024 the City of Watford City received a $50,000 Rural Facilities Planning Grant whose “purpose is to provide funding to support the planning and development of empty or soon-to-be-empty facilities or buildings in rural areas (communities). The grant is aimed at improving the quality of life, services and opportunities for residents in rural communities.” – North Dakota Department of Commerce

From April through June, the city hosted an online community input survey, where over 800 community members participated. From July through September, consulting firm, AE2S Communications processed that survey data, retail market leakage, held interviews with current property owners of the three participating redevelopment areas, overlaid building, planning, and zoning ordinances to the survey participant data, and provided public driven recommendations for those areas of Watford City.
